Sea Kayaking

Designed for beginners

Kathleen has been teaching sea kayaking for 16 years. Her instructor was Ann Linnea, who circumnavigated Lake Superior in 1992. Linnea's book, Deep Water Passage, details her journey.
This course will teach you the basics from kinds of equipment, paddling techniques, and steering, wet exit and rescues and safety. Our goal is to practice skills in a supportive and fun atmosphere while enjoying being in nature.
All levels of kayaker background are welcome. No experience is necessary.

Where we paddle

We start on quiet inland lakes and creeks to build individual skills, confidence and awareness. The gentleness of sea kayaks often allow us to see birds and other wildlife. Kayaks are safe and stable and the feeling of sitting close to the water is very calming and refreshing.
Advanced beginner groups will sometimes go to the North Shore of Lake Superior to paddle, weather pemitting and if the group desires. Here you can dramatically experience the sturdiness and safety of these amazing boats.
All kayaks, gear, meals and lodging are included. Trips are limited to eight, and are for adult women only unless specified.

"Our kayaking adventure is over, but the memories will be with me long after the snow flies! What a perfect weekend...the weather, your wonderful retreat home, the kayaking, the comraderie....it just could not have been nicer. Thanks for all that you did to ensure a most enjoyable and educational opportunity! I was amazed and awed by your simple and yet extremely difficult life style. I was totally impressed by all that you have accomplished...hard work motivated by values I respect." Thanks Kay
