Sea Kayaking and great instruction for beginners

Kayak Minnesota Lakes

Afternoon paddle on Indian Lake

Kathleen has been teaching sea kayaking for 24 years. Her instructor and mentor was Ann Linnea, who circumnavigated Lake Superior in 1992. Linnea’s book, Deep Water Passage, details her journey.  Kathleen provides expert kayak instruction in a supportive atmosphere.  This course will teach you the basics from kinds of equipment, paddling techniques, and steering, wet exit and rescues and safety.   Our goal is to practice skills in a supportive and fun atmosphere while enjoying being in nature.    All levels of kayaker background are welcome.     No experience is necessary.

Where we paddle

We start on quiet inland lakes and creeks to build individual skills, confidence and awareness. The gentleness of sea kayaks often allow us to see birds and other wildlife. Kayaks are safe and stable and the feeling of sitting close to the water is very calming and refreshing.   Advanced beginner groups will sometimes go to the North Shore of Lake Superior to paddle, weather permiting and if the group desires.   Here you can dramatically experience the sturdiness and safety of these amazing boats.   All kayaks, gear and lodging are included.

Trips are limited to eight, and are for adult women only unless specified.
